On a Painted Canvas was written in the summer of 2021 during the COVID-19 Pandemic. In a world which seemed to be filled with many challenges, adversities, and obstacles, the need to mourn, ponder, love, and unite became more important than ever. On a Painted Canvas is the opportunity to take the negatives and unfortunate situations, and remember that we, the painters, have the opportunity to create our future, dreams, and aspirations. The ‘canvas’ becomes a metaphor for our lives, and the brush that’s used to paint allows each of us to be illustrators and paint the future into a brighter, enriching, loving place, for which we all so desperately need.
On a Painted Canvas was premiered Saturday, July 10, 2021, at Texas Tech University Band & Orchestra Camp under the baton of Mr. Gabe Musella, Asst. Director of UIL Music.
