Benton holds a Bachelor of Music Education from Northwestern State University in Louisiana, with certifications in both vocal and instrumental music. As a dedicated trombonist, he studied under Dr. J. Mark Thompson and Andrew Eden, while further developing his conducting skills under Dr. Jeffrey C. Mathews. He was also a member of the Wind Ensemble, Jazz Orchestra, Men’s Chorus, and multiple instrumental ensembles. He also holds a graduate degree in Educational Administration & Supervision.

As an educational administrator, Benton brings a rich blend of instructional leadership, music education, and performance experience to his work with students, teachers, and school communities. Prior to moving into administration, he served as Associate Director of Bands at J.J. Pearce High School, where he directed the marching band, conducted the Wind Symphony, assisted with concert ensembles, and supported beginner instruction throughout the Pearce cluster.

In addition to his work in education, Benton remains an active composer and arranger. His music has been performed by middle school, high school, university, community, and military band ensembles, with performances at major conventions and clinics including The Midwest Clinic International Band and Orchestra Conference, the Texas Music Educators Association Clinic/Convention, and the Texas Bandmasters Association Convention. His compositions are published by C. Alan Publications, Carl Fischer Music, Excelcia Music Publishing, Wingert-Jones Publications, and RBC Publications.

Benton is also a sought-after adjudicator, clinician, summer camp conductor, and drum major instructor. His passion for music education is evident in his authorship of The Daily Regimen, a fundamental studies book for band now in its third edition.

Outside of music, Benton is a Division I NCAA Women’s Basketball Official, having officiated prestigious events such as the UIL State Basketball Tournament, AAU Nationals in Las Vegas, and multiple conference finals matchups. His officiating career also includes experience as a Texas high school basketball official.
